A major tax reform plan supported by Donald Trump hit a serious obstacle today in the House Budget Committee.
Several Republicans voted against the bill, stopping it from moving forward. Without changes, the U.S. may face a large tax hike.

The bill, called “The One, Big, Beautiful Bill,” was introduced by Rep. Jason Smith (R-MO) and the Ways and Means Committee. It aimed to cut taxes for families, workers, and small businesses across America.
The 389-page proposal included several “America First” policies. These included removing taxes on tips and overtime pay.
Trump strongly supported the bill, saying it would help working Americans and protect Medicaid from misuse.
However, five GOP lawmakers rejected the plan due to cost concerns. They also questioned delays in removing wasteful green energy tax credits. Some criticized that Medicaid cuts would take too long to start, while tax cuts were immediate.
Because of the 16-21 vote, the bill cannot advance to a full House or Senate vote in its current form.
Republicans who voted against the bill:
- Rep. Andrew Clyde (GA)
- Rep. Chip Roy (TX)
- Rep. Josh Brecheen (OK)
- Rep. Ralph Norman (SC)
- Rep. Lloyd Smucker (PA)
Rep. Jodey Arrington (R-TX) said the committee will not meet again today.

Vote was 16-21.
Clyde, Roy, Brecheen, Norman and Smucker all voted no. Smucker changed his vote
Earlier, Trump urged Republicans to support the bill.
“Republicans MUST UNITE behind The One, Big, Beautiful Bill!” Trump said. “It cuts taxes for everyone. It also removes illegal immigrants from Medicaid, saving it for those in true need. If we fail, taxes could go up by 65%. Voters will suffer. Democrats will get the blame, but that helps no one. No more grandstanding—just get it done. Let’s fix the mess left by Biden and the Democrats.”
This bill remains a key part of Trump’s economic plan. But internal GOP divisions may now force a major rewrite.
People need to remember these names come 2026 so we can vote them out of office!!!
