On Thursday, The Wall Street Journal revealed that former U.S. President Bill Clinton was among several prominent figures who reportedly sent birthday notes to convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein for his 50th birthday back in 2003.

Clinton’s ties to Epstein have been widely reported over the years. The former president has appeared in various legal documents and public records connected to Epstein’s network, some of which were made public in court filings last year.

Flight records linked to Epstein’s private jet show Clinton traveled aboard the aircraft multiple times between 2002 and 2003. However, there is no evidence that Clinton was ever involved in Epstein’s illegal activities.

In a statement from 2019, Clinton’s spokesperson Angel Urena clarified, “President Clinton traveled on Epstein’s plane four times during 2002 and 2003 — once to Europe, once to Asia, and twice to Africa — all in relation to Clinton Foundation work.”

The WSJ report comes amid renewed attention on the Epstein case. Earlier this month, the Department of Justice released a memo declaring Epstein’s 2019 death as a suicide — a conclusion that reignited controversy among supporters of former President Donald Trump, who have long pushed conspiracy theories claiming Epstein was murdered to protect powerful individuals.

According to the Journal, Clinton’s handwritten message to Epstein praised their longstanding connection. The note reportedly read:
“It’s comforting, isn’t it? That through all these years of experiences, knowledge, and curiosity, you’ve still held onto your youthful spirit, the desire to bring change, and the value of lasting friendships.”

In a 2016 deposition, Johanna Sjoberg — one of Epstein’s alleged victims — testified that Epstein once said, “Clinton likes them young,” referencing underage girls. Sjoberg was associated with Epstein between 2001 and 2006, according to her statement cited by Newsweek.

Clinton’s team has declined to comment specifically on the birthday message but reiterated a past statement saying the former president ended all contact with Epstein more than 10 years before his 2019 arrest and had no knowledge of his criminal conduct.

The article follows a separate Journal report from the previous week, which claimed that Donald Trump also sent Epstein a birthday message for his 50th birthday. That alleged note was typed and surrounded by the outline of a nude woman, with Trump’s signature placed in a suggestive position. The letter reportedly ended with, “Happy Birthday — and may every day be another wonderful secret.”

Trump has denied writing or designing the letter and has since launched a multibillion-dollar defamation lawsuit against the Journal and its publisher, Rupert Murdoch.

Both letters — the one from Clinton and the controversial note attributed to Trump — were allegedly curated by Epstein’s longtime associate, Ghislaine Maxwell, as part of a leather-bound birthday album she compiled for him.

Additionally, Trump recently called on former Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi to release all grand jury records tied to Epstein’s case, criticizing the ongoing scrutiny as “nonsense.”

Still, a federal judge in Florida rejected a request to unseal those records on Wednesday. Several other motions related to grand jury testimony in the Epstein case remain pending, according to Newsweek.
