Ellen DeGeneres is reportedly preparing to return to the United States after spending the past year living in England, according to a new report from the Daily Mail.
The former daytime talk-show host and her wife, Portia de Rossi, relocated to the Cotswolds following Donald Trump’s 2024 election victory, saying at the time that they preferred the lifestyle in the United Kingdom.
When she first settled in England, DeGeneres praised the country’s scenery and slower pace of life.
“It’s absolutely beautiful,” she said during one interview. “The villages, the architecture — everything feels peaceful and charming. It’s such a different way of living.” She also noted that the environment felt cleaner and that people seemed especially polite.
Cold Weather Reportedly Prompting a Change of Heart
Despite her early enthusiasm, DeGeneres is now said to be rethinking her long-term plans overseas. Sources told the Mail on Sunday that the couple is missing California’s warm climate and no longer wants to endure another cold, gray winter in rural England.
The report claims DeGeneres has told friends that she and de Rossi hope to spend more time back in California, where many of their close friends still live. De Rossi, who is widely known for her roles on Ally McBeal and Arrested Development, is also reportedly interested in taking on more acting opportunities — something easier to pursue from Los Angeles.
One source noted that while DeGeneres had initially planned to remain in the U.K. throughout Trump’s time in office, the couple’s priorities appear to have shifted.
“They’ve been saying they miss their friends and that the winters are tough,” the source said. “It sounds like they’ll be back for the holidays and possibly for a longer stay.”

Hollywood Return Remains Uncertain
While DeGeneres may be planning a return to California, how Hollywood will receive her remains unclear. Her talk show ended amid allegations of a difficult workplace environment — claims she has denied but which still created lasting challenges for her public image.
Whether her time away will help her reestablish a presence in the industry is yet to be seen.
