Haribo, the well-known candy brand, has issued a major recall in the Netherlands after traces of cannabis were found in some of its Happy Cola F!ZZ candy.
Family Falls Ill After Eating Contaminated Candy
The issue came to light when multiple members of a family felt unwell after eating the candy. Symptoms such as dizziness were reported, prompting an investigation by the Dutch Food and Consumer Product Safety Authority (NVWA).
Lab tests confirmed that the candy contained cannabis, leading to an immediate product recall.
“This goes beyond minor health complaints,” said an NVWA spokesperson. “We took immediate action and contacted Haribo, which has now issued a public safety alert.”
Dutch Police Investigating Contamination
The source of the contamination is still unknown. Haribo is working closely with law enforcement to determine how the cannabis ended up in the candy and how the affected products made it to store shelves.
Police became involved after reports that children had fallen ill after eating the product. Dutch police spokesperson Chantal Westerhoff said:
“We are investigating how this happened and how these specific bags reached consumers.”

Haribo has promised full refunds for returned products.
“The safety of our customers is our top priority,” the company said in a statement. “We are taking this matter very seriously, which is why a full recall has been initiated.”
