Karmelo Anthony has been moved to a secure, undisclosed location after he and his family received a wave of violent threats, according to the civil rights group supporting him.
Facing Murder Charges
Anthony is facing a murder charge in connection with the fatal stabbing of Austin Metcalf in Texas. He has claimed the act was in self-defense. As the case continues to draw national attention, Judge Angela Tucker reduced his bond from $1 million to $250,000 and placed him under house arrest.
However, over the past weekend, the situation surrounding Anthony took a more dangerous turn. The advocacy group Next Generation Action Network (NCAN), which has been working closely with him, shared photos and documentation of the threats. According to their statement, these threats created a “highly volatile environment,” fueled by racism, organized hate, and misinformation being spread about the case.
The group reported several alarming incidents, including a disturbing delivery of Austin Metcalf’s obituary to Anthony’s residence, as well as repeated food deliveries that were never ordered. These acts, NCAN said, were meant to intimidate and harass the family. Images of the incidents were released to raise public awareness about the hostile environment they’ve been facing.
Tensions escalated further when Jake Lang, a known far-right figure, organized a rally titled “Protect White Americans,” reportedly drawing around 40 people who claimed to support the Metcalf family. Around 20 counter-protesters also showed up, according to the New York Post.
Due to the increasing threats and constant surveillance of Anthony’s home, including strangers taking photos and loitering around the property, NCAN said the family had no choice but to move him for his safety. The court reportedly approved the relocation, which was described as a necessary measure to protect his well-being.
In addition, NCAN called local authorities after Jeff Metcalf, the father of the deceased, unexpectedly appeared at one of their press events last week.
NCAN stated the Anthony family has been subjected to a “disturbing rise in death threats, harassment, and physical intimidation” in recent days. As of now, Karmelo Anthony remains in a confidential location while legal proceedings continue.
