A massive earthquake measuring 7.7 magnitude struck Myanmar on Friday, generating energy comparable to hundreds of nuclear detonations, according to geologist Jess Phoenix.

Seismic Energy Equal to 334 Atomic Bombs
Phoenix explained in an interview with CNN that the force unleashed by this earthquake matched the impact of approximately 334 nuclear explosions. The powerful tremor shook the region, causing widespread concern.
Months of Aftershocks Expected
She warned that aftershocks could persist for several months due to ongoing tectonic activity. The Indian plate continues to push beneath the Eurasian plate, keeping the region unstable.
Impact Worsened by Civil Conflict
Phoenix also highlighted Myanmar’s ongoing civil war as a factor that could make disaster response even more challenging. She stressed that such devastation is difficult to handle under normal conditions but becomes nearly impossible in a conflict zone.
