Hundreds of demonstrators gathered in Chicago and other cities worldwide on Saturday as part of a coordinated effort against Elon Musk. Protesters voiced their frustration over his involvement in President Trump’s administration, which has been implementing large-scale federal layoffs.

Mass Demonstrations at Tesla Showrooms
Activists rallied at more than 500 Tesla locations, demanding action against Musk’s growing influence. They pledged to continue weekly protests to impact his wealth, which remains heavily tied to Tesla stock. In Chicago, major gatherings took place in the Gold Coast district, Northbrook, and Westmont. Similar events unfolded across North America and Europe, marking the first unified protest at Tesla showrooms nationwide.
Boycott Demands and Political Criticism
Protesters carried banners and chanted slogans, with some referring to Tesla vehicles as symbols of oppression. The movement, known as “Tesla Takedown,” accuses Musk of manipulating government policy and supporting efforts to dismantle public institutions.
A key concern among demonstrators is Musk’s leadership of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), which they claim facilitates mass layoffs. Activists demand the agency’s closure, a widespread boycott of Tesla, and Musk’s removal from power.
“Elon Musk has no sympathy for people who rely on federal assistance. He should return to South Africa,” said Mark Portman from Highland Park.
His wife, Marla Portman, added, “Instead of buying Teslas, we should be selling them and cutting our financial ties with Musk.”
Tesla Vandalism on the Rise
Reports of vandalism targeting Tesla vehicles have increased across the U.S., with incidents recorded in at least nine states since January 2025. Acts of destruction, including arson and graffiti, have been linked to individuals who oppose Musk’s policies.
In London, activists placed cutouts of Musk making a controversial salute over Tesla charging stations.

Musk and Government Officials React
Musk addressed the growing backlash in a Fox News interview, stating, “These attacks only prove that we are successfully fighting corruption and government waste.”
The Trump administration has vowed to take stronger action against attacks on Tesla. However, intelligence officials believe these incidents are isolated acts rather than part of an organized effort.
The FBI has formed a special unit to investigate the rise in Tesla-related attacks, working alongside local authorities to prevent further incidents.
