In a bold social media post early Wednesday, President Donald Trump declared a new era in U.S. trade policy. He called the day “Liberation Day” as he prepared to finalize major tariff measures.
“IT’S LIBERATION DAY IN AMERICA!” Trump wrote in an all-caps post on Truth Social.
Trump has promoted April 2 as a key moment, arguing that his tariffs will stop unfair trade practices that weaken the U.S. economy.

New Tariffs Aim to Reshape Global Trade
Last week, Trump announced a 25% tariff on all auto imports, set to start Thursday. In mid-March, he imposed a global 25% tariff on steel and aluminum. A 20% tariff on Chinese goods, introduced last month, has already triggered retaliation from Beijing.
Trump has also placed trade penalties on Canada and Mexico. He links these tariffs to demands for stronger immigration enforcement and action against fentanyl exports.
‘Make America Wealthy Again’ Event Scheduled
Trump will outline his economic plan at a 4 p.m. ET news conference in the White House Rose Garden. The event, called “Make America Wealthy Again,” will detail his administration’s strategy for trade and economic growth.
