Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard has revealed that the U.S. government knew about serious flaws in voting machines before the 2020 election but failed to take action.
Speaking during a Cabinet-level meeting with former President Donald Trump earlier this year, Gabbard stated that the Intelligence Community has been looking into possible attempts to interfere with election systems.
She noted that both foreign and domestic actors may have targeted electronic voting machines to alter vote totals.
“Our national security team is actively investigating these issues,” Gabbard said. “We’ve known for years that electronic voting systems are at risk. That’s why we need paper ballots across the country—to restore faith in our elections.”
Whistleblower from CISA Raises Red Flags
In a recent interview on The Benny Johnson Show, Gabbard shared new details. She said a whistleblower from the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) came forward with evidence before the 2020 election.
This insider reportedly warned that CISA had identified major vulnerabilities in voting systems. However, the agency did not alert the public or top government officials at the time.
“This individual revealed that CISA knew about these security gaps,” Gabbard explained. “But they chose to stay silent. That’s unacceptable when we’re talking about the foundation of democracy.”
Election Integrity Remains a Top Concern
Gabbard emphasized that election transparency and trust must be priorities moving forward.
“People need to know that their vote counts and that it’s secure,” she said. “We’re still investigating, and we’ll share more when we can.”
When asked whether more information about the 2020 election would be released, Gabbard replied, “Yes.”

Trump’s Executive Order on Election Reform
Former President Donald Trump has long claimed that the 2020 election was rigged, though no official evidence has confirmed widespread fraud.
In March, Trump signed an executive order to reform federal election rules. Key elements of the order include:
- Requiring voters to submit proof of U.S. citizenship when registering.
- Ensuring all mail-in ballots arrive by Election Day to be counted.
- Empowering federal agencies to cut funding to states that don’t comply.
- Mandating the Department of Justice to prosecute election-related crimes.
- Ordering federal and state collaboration to remove noncitizens from voter rolls.
Legal Challenges Already Underway
Despite these changes, federal courts have blocked parts of the order. The requirement for citizenship documents when registering using the federal form has been halted due to constitutional concerns. Critics argue it may prevent eligible voters from participating.
