Erika Kirk, the widow of conservative activist Charlie Kirk, made a heartfelt public return on Wednesday, appearing alongside Vice President JD Vance at a Turning Point USA campus event at the University of Mississippi.
This was Erika’s first public appearance since the tragic assassination of Charlie Kirk, who was fatally shot by a sniper seven weeks earlier during a speech at Utah Valley University.

Speaking to a crowd of nearly 10,000 students, Erika delivered an emotional message about faith, courage, and resilience in the face of loss. She revealed that she had personally invited Vice President Vance to take part in the event.
“When our team asked my dear friend, Vice President JD Vance, to speak today, I prayed about it,” Erika said. “It’s an emotional day, but I could hear Charlie in my heart saying, ‘Take that stage, babe. The battle’s already won. God’s love always conquers.’ That’s why I’m here today.”
Erika also spoke warmly about Vice President JD Vance, recalling how he helped carry Charlie’s coffin aboard Air Force Two from Utah to Arizona. “No one will ever replace my husband,” she said, “but I do see some of his same courage and strength in JD.”
Now stepping into a new role, Erika Kirk is leading Turning Point USA, the conservative youth movement that her husband founded and dedicated his life to. Her return to the public stage symbolizes hope, leadership, and the continued growth of the conservative movement Charlie began.
