A Justice Department employee in Brownsville is facing serious charges after authorities say she exposed a federal agent’s identity during a livestreamed raid.
Karen Olvera De Leon, who works for the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Brownsville, appeared on a livestream of a federal operation on June 9. During the broadcast, a man joined the chat and issued a death threat toward one of the agents at the scene.
Investigators say another viewer then provided the agent’s identity to the man making the threat. Authorities later identified that viewer as Olvera De Leon.
According to KRGV, Olvera De Leon was arrested and booked Thursday on charges of terrorism and evidence tampering. Cameron County jail records confirm the arrest and list both charges.

There is a SICK AND TWISTED ROT within our DOJ that still exists.
It MUST be rooted out. Make an example of this lady!
Of course she's a KAREN! pic.twitter.com/QiuihPVtvl
Officials said the case stems from a federal enforcement action recorded and streamed by bystanders in Cameron County. The threatening comments and doxxing took place in the livestream chat.
The news release states that a male user delivered an online death threat against a federal agent. A viewer then exposed the agent’s identity and directed it to the person making the threat. Authorities say Olvera De Leon was responsible for providing that information.
Jail documents show she was later released on a $20,000 bond.
This case comes as Homeland Security warns about rising threats toward federal officers. The DHS said last month that attacks on agents have increased by more than 1,000 percent and many officers and their families face growing online harassment.
