A new report says federal immigration officers have already begun arrests in what locals call “Somali-land Minnesota.” This area has one of the nation’s largest Somali populations. The information comes from journalist Katie Daviscourt of The Post Millennial.
Minneapolis Officials Warn Residents About Unmarked Arrests
During a Tuesday press conference, Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O’Hara urged Somali residents to remain alert. He said masked individuals seen detaining people in Somali neighborhoods might not be legitimate law-enforcement officers.
O’Hara told residents to call 911 if they witness police activity they cannot identify.
He stressed that officers must intervene if they see any misconduct or violations of civil rights.
Mayor Frey Criticizes Federal Crackdown
Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey also spoke out. He reminded the public that city rules block police from helping ICE with civil-immigration cases.
His comments added to growing frustration among local officials who oppose the reported federal operations.
Reports Point to a Large-Scale ICE Mission
Several media outlets say ICE is preparing a major enforcement push in the Twin Cities.
According to The New York Times, about 100 federal agents from across the country have arrived for targeted immigration enforcement.
New Details From On-the-Ground Reporting
Katie Daviscourt shared more information about the operation.
She said ICE officers arrested multiple individuals with criminal histories during a Saturday sweep in the region.
Some Democratic leaders accused ICE of “kidnapping” innocent people.
However, Daviscourt’s sources said every primary target was wanted on active warrants.
One man allegedly fought officers before they brought him into custody. A previously deported woman ran into a home but was caught soon after. That situation led to several additional arrests.
Daviscourt also obtained an exclusive video showing part of the operation.
