Two people were hospitalized after a shooting involving federal law enforcement agents in Portland, Oregon, on January 8, city officials confirmed.
City Council President Elana Pirtle-Guiney addressed the incident during Thursday’s City Council meeting, stating that both victims survived and are receiving medical care. “They are still alive, and we are hoping for continued positive updates,” Pirtle-Guiney said.
Authorities have not released the identities of the injured individuals, and details surrounding the shooting remain limited. The FBI’s Portland field office confirmed that the incident involved agents from U.S. Customs and Border Protection, though no additional information about the circumstances has been made public.
District 1 City Councilor Jamie Dunphy voiced strong concern following the meeting, saying the victims are residents of his district. According to Dunphy, the two people injured are a married couple. “Two of my neighbors are currently in hospital beds, and we’re all hoping they make it home safely,” he said.
Pirtle-Guiney noted that the shooting occurred in East Portland. City leaders have called for transparency as the investigation continues.
The Portland shooting comes just one day after a separate incident in Minneapolis, where a woman was fatally shot during an encounter with immigration enforcement agents, drawing renewed attention to federal law enforcement operations nationwide.
