Today marks the fifth anniversary of Brexit in Britain. According to a new public opinion poll, almost three in ten Britons believe the process was fair and good, and most of them want the country to return to the European Union.
More than half, or 52 percent, of Britons voted “for” Brexit in the 2016 referendum. On January 31, 2020, the United Kingdom became the first country to leave the EU.
Five years later, only 30 percent of Britons think the country did a good job leaving the EU. This is the lowest approval rating for Brexit ever. Among Britons who voted “for” Brexit, 18 percent now think Britain’s exit from the EU was a mistake.
55% of Britons now support a return to the EU, including 20% of those who voted for a “divorce” with Brussels… 39% of them are “strongly” in favor.
British Prime Minister Keir Starmer has promised to improve relations with the EU, but is against the country’s return to full membership of the Union.
The Britain was finally granted their wish of exiting the EU after years of negotiations over trade, immigration, and regulatory policies.
Brexit has led to several struggles for the UK, including economic disruption, labor shortages, and trade complications.
Businesses faced increased costs due to customs checks and regulatory differences, impacting imports and exports.
The labor market suffered, particularly in sectors like healthcare, agriculture, and hospitality, due to reduced access to EU workers.
Northern Ireland faced political tensions over the trade border with the EU. Additionally, businesses and consumers experienced supply chain disruptions, contributing to inflation and economic uncertainty.
While the UK sought new trade deals, many challenges remain in adapting to life outside the EU.
Do you think that Britain should get back to European Union or stay where it is?
