A nurse is in critical condition after being stabbed by a “member of the public” at the Royal Oldham Hospital in Greater Manchester late Saturday night.
The incident occurred around 11:30 p.m. in the hospital’s A&E department, where the victim, a woman in her 50s, sustained serious and potentially life-altering injuries. According to Greater Manchester Police (GMP), the attack was carried out with a “sharp instrument” that was not a knife.
A 37-year-old man was arrested at the scene on suspicion of attempted murder and remains in custody for questioning.
A GMP spokesperson stated: “While the investigation is still in its early stages, we are not looking for anyone else in connection with this incident, and there is no perceived threat to the wider public.”
The situation has drawn significant attention, with the victim continuing to receive treatment for her injuries.
