A surprising 12% of Britons have reported finding foreign objects in food bought from UK supermarkets, according to a survey by Which?. The UK’s leading consumer protection organization surveyed 1,000 respondents and uncovered shocking discoveries.
Foreign Objects Found in Food
Many consumers have reported unexpected items in their groceries. Some found industrial screws in fish, while others discovered flies in crackers.
A few even reported finding jewelry inside food packaging. The most disturbing cases included animal droppings found inside sealed food products.
Other objects included caterpillars, pieces of wood, and hard fragments inside meat pies. These findings have raised concerns about food safety in UK supermarkets.
Consumers Want Better Recall Notifications
Some respondents stated they unknowingly purchased recalled food products. Three individuals confirmed buying food later pulled from the shelves.
Only 2% of respondents received direct notification from the supermarket about a product recall. However, 50% of surveyed shoppers said they want direct notifications if a product they bought gets recalled.
Are Recalled Products Dangerous?
Despite these alarming discoveries, no illnesses or injuries were reported. Which? confirmed that none of the respondents suffered health issues after consuming the recalled food.
UK Supermarkets Face Growing Consumer Concerns
Food safety remains a major concern in the UK retail industry. Supermarkets must improve quality control measures to prevent foreign objects from contaminating food.
Consumers are now demanding faster product recalls and better communication from retailers. As food safety issues rise, supermarkets must act to regain public trust.
