A former Fox TV news anchor, Angelynn Mock, has been charged with first-degree murder after allegedly stabbing her 80-year-old mother, Anita Avers, to death inside their Wichita, Kansas home on Halloween morning.
Mock, who previously worked as a fill-in anchor for KTVI Fox 2 in St. Louis, is currently being held at the Sedgwick County Jail on a $1 million bond. Authorities describe the shocking incident as one of the most disturbing domestic crimes in the city in recent years.

The Shocking Halloween Morning Incident
Police say the fatal stabbing took place shortly before 8 a.m. Friday in a quiet suburban neighborhood in Wichita. Witnesses reported seeing Mock covered in blood and staggering into the street as she cried out for help.
“She came up to our car — her hands, her clothes, everything was covered in blood — and she begged us to call 911,”
said neighbor Alyssa Castro in an interview with KAKE News.
Investigators say Mock briefly used Castro’s phone before running back inside her home to call 911 again. During the emergency call, she allegedly confessed to the attack, claiming she stabbed her mother “to protect herself.”
Victim Identified as Respected Therapist
When officers arrived at the home, they found Avers unresponsive in her bed with multiple stab wounds. She was taken to a nearby hospital but was pronounced dead approximately 30 minutes later.
Avers was a well-known marriage and family therapist at Wichita Counseling Professionals, where she had built a strong reputation for her decades of service and compassion toward her clients.
Ongoing Investigation and Unanswered Questions
Mock was arrested at the scene without incident. She remains behind bars as detectives continue to investigate the motive behind the alleged killing. Police have not confirmed what might have led to the violent confrontation or whether Mock’s claim of self-defense has any credibility.
Authorities are expected to release further details once the case progresses through court.
