Late-night host Jimmy Kimmel is under fire after making controversial comments about the assassination of conservative activist Charlie Kirk, sparking nationwide outrage and a temporary suspension from broadcast.
Kimmel’s Controversial Comments Spark Outrage
During his ABC late-night show, Kimmel falsely suggested that the person responsible for Charlie Kirk’s murder was a MAGA supporter. His remarks immediately drew backlash across social media, with viewers accusing him of spreading misinformation and mocking a tragedy.
“We hit a new low this weekend with MAGA supporters trying to distance themselves from the person who murdered Charlie Kirk — and using the tragedy for political gain,” Kimmel told his audience.
ABC and Disney Temporarily Suspend Kimmel
Following the controversy, ABC affiliate Nexstar and Disney temporarily removed Kimmel’s program from 32 local stations. The suspension lasted briefly before Kimmel was allowed to return on air.
Public criticism continued to mount, forcing Kimmel to clarify his remarks.
“I never intended to make light of a young man’s death,” Kimmel said. “There’s nothing funny about what happened, and I wasn’t trying to blame any group for this tragedy.”
Erika Kirk Responds to Kimmel’s Comments
Erika Kirk, the widow of Charlie Kirk and newly appointed CEO and Board Chair of Turning Point USA, spoke with Fox News host Jesse Watters about whether she expected an apology from the comedian.
“Sinclair Broadcasting reached out asking if I wanted Jimmy to apologize or if I wanted to appear on his show,” Erika said. “Our response was simple — this isn’t our problem. If he truly feels sorry, he can apologize to those grieving. But if not, I don’t want or need an apology.”
The full interview with Erika Kirk will air Wednesday at 8 p.m. ET on “Jesse Watters Primetime” on Fox News Channel.
