One of the two West Virginia National Guard members wounded in Wednesday’s ambush-style shooting in Washington, D.C., has been identified as Andrew Wolfe, according to his former high school.
Musselman High School in West Virginia publicly confirmed his identity in a statement on Facebook, writing:
“Our Applemen community is deeply saddened to learn that Musselman High School alumnus, Andrew Wolfe, was one of the National Guardsmen injured in the shooting in Washington, D.C., today.”
Authorities say Wolfe, who lives in Martinsburg, was critically injured after a gunman—identified as Rahmanullah Lakanwal, 29—allegedly opened fire on two Guard members near the Farragut West Metro Station. Federal officials are investigating the attack as a possible act of terrorism.

Wolfe is currently undergoing surgery and remains in critical condition, according to updates shared by family and school officials.
The school added:
“Please keep Andrew, his family, and all those affected in your thoughts. We will share updates as we receive them.”
Community Rallies Around Injured Guardsman
Friends, relatives, and community members expressed support across social media late Wednesday, posting messages of hope and prayer for Wolfe’s recovery.
“Please pray for my dear friend Andrew Wolfe,” one friend wrote.
Another shared memories, adding:
“Oh Andy! So many good times at our house. We love you so much. Keep fighting, buddy!”

Wolfe is known locally as an avid cornhole competitor, often participating in regional tournaments. The Beltway Baggers, a group affiliated with the American Cornhole League in Virginia, also posted a message of support.
“As we head into Thanksgiving, please keep our friend in your prayers. He was shot today while serving our country, and our hearts are with him and his family,” the organization wrote.
“We’re praying for his strength, healing, and for his family during this incredibly difficult time. We love you, Andy.”

Second Guardsman Still Unidentified
The second National Guard member — a woman who was reportedly shot in the chest and head — has not yet been publicly identified. Updates on her condition have not been released.
Federal authorities continue to investigate the motive behind the shooting as the National Guard community, West Virginia residents, and supporters across the country await more information.
