The Los Angeles County district attorney announced today that 10 individuals have been arrested on charges connected to looting and other offenses following the devastating wildfires.
“People are exploiting the suffering of those affected by these fires,” DA Nathan Hochman stated during a press briefing this afternoon.
Among the alleged crimes is burglary, including the theft of an Emmy Award from a residence in the Eaton Fire area near Altadena. Four suspects are facing charges related to this case, according to Hochman. Additionally, two individuals accused of looting two homes in Altadena during the Eaton Fire on Wednesday night have also been charged with burglary.
Authorities reported further incidents of looting and curfew violations in the aftermath of the fires. On Saturday night, a person dressed in firefighter gear was arrested in the Palisades Fire zone. Details about the allegations remain undisclosed due to an ongoing investigation.
“This kind of conduct is outrageous,” said L.A. County Supervisor Lindsey Horvath. “It will not be tolerated.”
Law enforcement officials have also made arrests for grand theft and curfew violations. Meanwhile, a 39-year-old man has been charged with arson for allegedly attempting to ignite a tree on Friday at Pioneer Park in Azusa. The park is located near the Angeles National Forest, approximately 20 miles from the Eaton Fire area.
