President-elect Donald Trump announced plans on Tuesday to establish a new agency, the External Revenue Service, which will be tasked with “collecting tariffs, duties, and all revenue” from foreign sources. This new agency will be responsible for collecting all revenues from foreign sources.
In a social media post, Donald Trump announced plans to establish the External Revenue Service on January 20, the day of his inauguration for a second term as president.
“Through soft and pathetically weak trade agreements, the American economy has fueled growth and prosperity for the world while burdening ourselves with taxes. It is time for that to change,” the Republican wrote on Truth Social.
“We will begin charging those who profit from trade with us, and they will finally start paying their fair share,” Trump stated.
He has pledged to introduce significant tariffs on the United States’ three largest trading partners, signaling a major shift in trade policy.
