
Prince George’s County Fire Chief Thelmetria “Meme” Michaelides suffered a health scare during a public safety event on fireworks.
The incident happened at the county’s training facility ahead of Fourth of July celebrations. Chief Michaelides was speaking to the public about fireworks safety when she suddenly collapsed.
Paramedics already on site responded within seconds. They provided medical care before rushing her to a nearby hospital.
FOX5 reports she was conscious and stable during the transport. Officials later confirmed her condition was not life-threatening.
Michaelides Thanks First Responders for Quick Action
The county’s Fire and EMS Department released an official statement after the incident. They confirmed Chief Michaelides experienced a medical emergency but is now recovering well.
Chief Michaelides expressed gratitude for the fast response and expert care she received.
“I truly appreciate the quick help from our Fire and EMS teams,” she said.
She also thanked the staff at MedStar Southern Maryland Hospital Center for their excellent care.
Michaelides had officially taken over as Fire Chief just one week earlier. She plans to continue her duties as the county prepares for holiday events.
