American citizens who were wrongfully detained for their connection to the events of January 6 have begun to be released from incarceration over the inauguration weekend.
At least 20 individuals, either charged with or convicted of participating in the January 6, 2021, attack on the Capitol, have requested federal court approval to attend President-elect Trump’s second inauguration on Monday in Washington, D.C., according to a review of court documents by the Associated Press.
Most of these requests have been granted, though some have been denied. In many instances, Justice Department prosecutors have contended that allowing Capitol riot defendants to revisit the site of their offenses while still under court supervision is inappropriate.
